Preparing for an Outdoor Expedition

Going on an expedition is a great way to spend summer. It can be a relaxing experience that will help you bond with the nature. This can be refreshing for the mind and also an escapade from the mundane routine. But, expedition needs to be planned beforehand to prevent any last-minute hassles. It will help you stay calm and not leave you panicking about the place, the gear and other necessary items. This will also save you from ending up with something like an ill-fitted shoe or an uncomfortable gear.

Check Your Boots

For most of the times, you will be walking, which makes boots or shoes a crucial gear. Don’t just buy a new pair and pack it for the journey. You need to get comfortable in it by wearing it at home or try walking in it for some time before your expedition. This will help you know if there is any kind of discomfort. You really would not like to end up with blisters or sore feet.

Food to Cook

You cannot survive without food and while you are out in the wilderness, you must think and plan for some recipes that you will be cooking. Good, nutritious food is necessary after a long, tiring day of adventure. The diet and the meal would also be completely different than the one that we maintain at home. Hence, look out for recipes that require less ingredients and preparation.

Physical Preparation

Prepare your body for the strenuous physical activities that you will be undertaking. You can do this by running, walking, lifting weights, performing yoga, etc. Your physical fitness is the most important thing before any such plan. Try some physical exercises and evaluate your fitness level for the expedition to plan your activities accordingly.

Prepare With the Necessary Gear

Pack comfortable clothes according to the weather. If you are going to cold areas, don’t forget to take jackets, gloves, warm socks, etc. Similarly, for the hot and rainy weather, you need to look for waterproof gear. You should be comfortable in everything you are carrying with you. Even, make sure that you are carrying appropriate gear.

Get Familiar with Your Expedition Area

Have a look around the place where you will be going. Also, know how to use GPS, compass, to locate the directions as you will surely not want to get lost. It is also necessary that you know about the landscapes and plan your activities accordingly.

You must not forget that you will have to survive without your phones and laptops. So, you must practice without them to see if you can survive without them or not.  Sleep before the day of your expedition to get proper rest as it will help you stay refreshed and active. Remember that you don’t have to exhaust your body and give it maximum comfort.  Your physical and mental fitness should not be compromised. Hence, all the given points should be considered to make it a relaxing experience.
