Even at this time of the year when you look at taking outdoor coats and jackets on a walk then it’s not what the weather is like, but what it could change to that has to be considered, especially if heading out to do some walking in the hills. If there is one thing that is predictable about the British weather, is its unpredictability. Personal experience of at least three seasons in a day means discretion is always the better part of valour when packing for a walk.

The ability to reduce the weight of what you have to carry or wear, especially if the day starts out warm and the weather forecast is favourable is always difficult, but you have to remember that the temperature will drop and the wind will pick up when you are on the tops. However, you must always remember to put on your sunscreen too.

So what is the best thing to pack in this type of situation, and as always it all depends on your personal preference and a bit of that thing called common sense. If you are just out for the day and you will arrive back at the base you start from and you are not going too high or too far off track so to speak I tend to pack a hoodie or light fleece and a lightweight waterproof. Then I know I have the option if the temperature drops or it starts to rain. Others tend to approach it by having one of the poncho type waterproofs that cover you and your rucksack. For the more serious walk then the same rules apply and you will have a little more to carry, allowing for what you want to wear, maybe having to consider a 3 in 1 jacket, after all we all know that layering is the main secret about staying warm and dry.

So whatever decision you make, remember to take as much advice as you can, then you can decide what outdoor coats and jackets you take with you, check out the website as there is plenty of choice.
