You must be wondering how it feels to go with your family on a ski vacation only to find that you don’t like skiing. Believe me the feeling cannot be really explained. It is next to terrible. Yes, the word is terrible. It gets worse when you have a fear of heights; suffering from vertigo to be precise, and quite a trouble when your kids accompanying you have no special taste for this particular sport.

Who doesn’t wish to streak down the snowy pistes skiing joyously with their kids? Anyone and everyone would, unless you are a freak who is scared of your kid trying out something as bdaring as that of a sport like skiing.

Taking your children along for such thrilling adventures can be fun. Sharing some outdoor fun can be one of a kind experience with kids. Away from gadgets and mechanical life, you can really make the most of it on snowy mountain peaks. However, knowing the choices of your little one too is something to consider before planning any such trip. If your kid is not the adventurous sort, but still loves travelling and exploring new lands, then opting for resorts that expect the kids to ski throughout the day can be an abysmal choice. Remember, dealing with a brood can be more than dangerous, especially if you are someone who prefers mountain peaks.

Instead of forcing your kid to ski along with you, it is suggested that you put more effort into looking for resorts that focus on providing good childcare facilities and have a range of other activities that can keep your kid entertained. I know a couple who underwent a lot of pain handling their little daughter on one such trip. Dealing with stubborn kids is almost completely the same as fighting a wild beast. It is your responsibility being an adult to think practically and look for options that can effectively help in such circumstances.

The Tour Organiser

Asking for help from your tour operator is the ideal thing to do in case you plan on taking your kids along. To have tour organisers who have their own way of making things easy for you and your kid can work for you. Hunt out tours that include skiing along with other fun activities, crèche, and childcare options.

Skiing is tough for all beginners, and if your child is trying it for the first time, then it might take a toll on them. Not every kid would love this kind of fun. Hence, a snowclub and indoor snow game works like a breather for them. Snowman building, igloo making, and bum boarding are a few activities your child will need to engage in after a tiring first day skiing session. You can even arrange a nanny for your tiny toddlers.

Things to remember when choosing resorts

If you are a smart parent and have been for skiing adventures before, you will know the tactics that can be of great help in tackling your stubborn kid. Nowadays resorts have the option of indoor pools, water parks etc. However, this is limited to only high profile and luxury chalets. If you can afford to splurge lavishly then the worry of taking kids along can subside to some extent.

Alternatively, you might find some good spas as well, that are suitable for both adults and children. I spent my last skiing vacation with my family at a resort of Peyragudes in the French Pyrenees that had an amazing thermal spa.

One of my nieces loved Les Menuires as it has a wide range of indoor sports such as bouncy castles and trampolines. Even you can enjoy these with your kids on days you feel super lethargic. Engage in some toboggan runs or tubing, dog-sledging, and zip wiring.

Kid-friendly Resorts

French resorts are quite known for having crèche facilities. It is, however, difficult to find places that have English-speaking staff. Researching for resorts that cater their services to an international clientele can be the right thing to do.

Likewise, places like Austria, Switzerland, Germany, and Sweden all have appropriate hotels and program that can be of great help in such a scenario where your kid has other plans than to just ski with you. The locals can help too.

If nothing else works, then travel to Scandinavia immediately, as they specialise in providing incredible child care facilities, including staff that are skilled in fluent English speaking. Several non-skiing activities can allure your child to give up their nagging attitude and enjoy dog-sledding, snowmobiling and even reindeer sleigh rides.

Other Destinations

If not Europe, then North America can be a fantastic place to explore. There are a numbers of resorts that are well-equipped such as Snowmass, Beaver Creek, Whistler, Sun Peaks, and Banff. Unlike resorts in Europe, North American hotels are quite efficient in providing a sigh of relief to all those parents who cannot tolerate kids while they are out venturing the snow capped lands.

Think wisely and act smart while booking such places without being fooled. Also, never force your child into doing things. Give them space and instead divert them to other avenues of fun!
