Walking boots come in all shape and sizes, from shoes to full-on leather three season boots, and from fabric leisure boots to Gore-Tex winter hiking boots. And we all choose one of these pairs of boots to suit our hobbies and lifestyles at that moment in time. So what do you walking boots say about you? (All ideas are for fun and should not, in any way, taken with huge seriousness!)

Walking shoes: This says I like fairweather walking in the country but not too far, and preferably with my family, and hopefully with a pub or café at the end of the walk. Walking shoes are perfect for summer trail walking and made for easy-going summer walking routes with friends and family.

Summer walking boots: Walking boots do not have to cost a fortune. A summer walking boot will take you on amazing adventures in the UK – with friends or family. Whether you decide to hike a hill or trek a coastline on a waymarked walk summer walking bots will serve you well, summer after summer.

Waterproof walking boots: These are the boots for more serious walkers. Who wants wet feet, in summer or winter? No-one, so waterproof walking boots will keep you walking and dry in summer, winter, spring or autumn. You will pay extra for a waterproof membrane but these walking boots will serve you well for many years.

Three-seasons walking boots: You’re a mountaineer. In winter, you like the option of adding crampons. And in summer, you fancy the Alps or some other high-level walking trip. Three seasons boost are robust, waterproof and keep you trekking whatever the altitude or terrain.

Walking trainers: A blog about walking boots/shoes would not be complete without a mention of walking trainers. These are perfect for the walker who might sometimes fancy a short walk to the pub, but still off-road, and perhaps on a canal towpath. They are also perfect for a walk around the shops or a walk to your friend’s house. Or even for wearing to a barbecue. They say walking but within my comfort zone.

Are there any walking boots we've missed?
