Britain on Foot and a host of other companies have combined to get us all out and about this summer, grab your UK outdoor clothing and help them to achieve their target of Walking the World in 80 Days.

The challenge runs, or is that walks, from the 27th July to the 14th October, and wants everyone young and old, newbie’s and experienced walkers to get out and discover new walks, complete favourite walks, then declare them online. The combined total of everyone who takes part is hoped to pass the target of the circumference of the earth, a distance of approximately 25,000 miles. How far I hear you cry!

Well if every person in the UK took part it would only be a few steps each, however I’m sure we can get to the total if we make a little effort. It’s a great idea to get people walking and encouraging them to enjoy the outdoors. It’s an event that everyone can be involved with whether you visit your local country park or complete one of the long distance trails across the country. All you need to do is complete the walk, declare it online and your contribution is added to the total. They have even come up with a list of 100 walks for you to choose from, or to give you ideas for planning your own little adventure. The important thing is to get up and get involved. Enjoy the weather, while it lasts, and feel the benefit, no matter how far you go.

It’s also an opportunity to raise some money for charity, the official charity is Mountain Rescue, but why not raise something for a local cause at the same time, whether you take part in a short family orientated event or something more extreme it’s a chance to get outside and get some exercise and enjoy the countryside all in one fell swoop. So, grab some appropriate UK outdoor clothing and to paraphrase Brucie, “Keeeeep Walking!’
