No-one really needs an excuse to dust off the sallopettes and head off the winter blues on the slopes this season, but our lovely research friends have given us a very good reason to do just that. Winter British skiers heading to resorts in Europe this season can expect their money to stretch further than last year, thanks to the falling value of the euro and the Swiss franc.

This research tells us that the relative cost of essential purchases such as lift passes, boot hire, skiing tuition, and food and drink, were around seven per cent more affordable in France, Italy and Austria this year, while heading to Switzerland will get us Britons nearly 15 per cent more for our money.

Travel currency specialist Moneycorp, revealed that Bulgaria and Andorra provide the best value for British skiers with the shopping basket of ski essentials costing just under £250 on average in the eastern European country, and around £370 in Andorra. When compared to around £700 in a typical US resort, and between £450 and £550 in Europe’s better-known skiing destinations, I’m sure you’ll all agree this is great value for money!

With the ski season only round the corner this is a great time to get that holiday booked and pick up all the best winter deals on ski clothing while you can! Don’t let the drizzle and dark evenings affect you this winter when Swiss hot chocolates and French crepes are just around the corner…
