Friday has arrived and it looks like, for most of the country, we will avoid the rain, so what can we get outside and enjoy this weekend to make the most of the weather? Here are a variety of events I have found dotted around the country so get your walking shoes on and get outside, it will Monday again before you know it.

Down in Milton Keynes they are running one of their regular ‘Bark in the Park’ walks. Bring your pampered pooch and for just one pound per dog, that’s right a quid, you get the chance to participate in a walk around Willen Lake North for an hour and a half of both on and off lead walking. Willen Lake is home to one of Milton Keynes’ best known landmarks, no not the concrete cows, but the first Peace Pagoda to be built in the western world, and it is also home to a rich and varied bird population.

For something entirely different why not head down to London where the Annual Chap Olympiad is being held. A celebration of Britain’s sporting ineptitude; where sensational cravats take precedence over sweaty lycra, and where you will receive more points for maintaining your immaculate trouser creases then you will for actually crossing the finish line. Festivities start at twelve noon in Bedford Square once the Olympic pipe has been safely cradled in the Olympic pipe rack with events including Umbrella Jousting, Three-Trousered Limbo and the ever popular Martini Knockout Relay. Please be advised that during the Games any participant testing negative for alcohol content in the bloodstream will be disqualified and sent to the emergency gin tent for urgent help.

If you are looking for something a little more strenuous then how about a twelve mile hike ending up in Chipping Norton, run by the Cotswold Voluntary Wardens. This will take you to one of the most attractive villages in England, with the walk heading east from Great Rollright through the Swere Valley. A wonderful walk and the weather is set fair, so pack some lunch and enjoy it.

As part of the ‘Archaeology for All’ project, there is a one day event down in deepest Merthyr Tydfil, where you can learn all about the heritage and archaeology of the town. Events include examples of Roman cooking, a display of Medieval archery, rural skills, historical talks and children’s archaeology, as well as historical talks. It is taking place at Cyfarthfa Park and all the family are invited.

If you are north of the border this weekend why not watch others show their sporting prowess at the Alva Highland Games. Taking place at Cochrane Park from 12.30pm the 158th Alva Games programme of events includes cycling athletics, hill races as well as highland dancing and more traditional events.

So wherever you are this weekend, get outside and enjoy it, and if you attend any of the events we have mentioned, why not send us a picture. And as always if you have an outdoor event coming up drop us a line and we will get you a mention in this weekly ramble.
