Tom Brabham, a 22year-old from Hailsham in East Sussex has set out to walk the coastline of Britain for charity. Setting out on the 5th February from the Pier at Eastbourne, he aims to complete the 7,000 mile trip by Christmas, so that’s an average of   just over 21 miles each and every day. Walking in a straight line that would get you to Beijing in China!!

He is raising money for the Air Ambulance services in Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

He was inspired to take up the challenge after reading John Merrill’s book “Turn Right At Land’s End” which was published after he did the same walk back in the late1070s. Mr Brabham is walking clockwise around the country, travelling light with just camping equipment and essential kit. However, he has been offered accommodation along the way for which he is very grateful, and won’t be turning any offers down.

He says he is not aiming to beat any world records, especially as he is already suffering from blisters (ouch!!) but just wants to raise as much money as he can.

When asked why the UK and not somewhere more exotic he said that he wants to explore his own country first, and that we don’t know what we are missing out on as it is a beautiful place, and the weather will probably be just as varied. Well I think he’s definitely got that right, we always miss out on what is on our own doorstep, and as for the weather Britain is the only place where we can get all four seasons in one day, or less!!

People will be able to follow his progress, donate, or even help him out with accommodation or a decent meal as he has sent up a blog and facebook page,

Good Luck to him and let’s hope he has packed the right kit, with a sleeping bag to keep him warm, although reading his latest blog entry one kind sold has offered him a bed for the night featuring a top of the range bed with adjustable mattress, make the most of it you will need all the rest you can get!!
