The Ramblers Association have launched a new annual event to remember the mass trespass on Kinder Scout after the success of last year’s 80th anniversary event – The Spirit of Kinder Day. The first event will take place on April 27th in New Mills and aims to build on last year’s big event in order that the memory and the effect of this iconic event in walkers’ rights will never be forgotten.

The day itself will include a talk from Keith Warrender, the author of The Battle for Kinder Scout, Jon Stewart, manager of the National rust’s Peak District estate and Kate Ashbrook, the president of the Ramblers’ Association. It will also see the launch of “The Friends of Kinder Trespass”, an organisation from the Kinder Visitor Centre Group which has long-term plans for a visitor centre / museum to be based in Hayfield; which was one of the starting points for the Trespass in 1932.

They hope to feature not only the Kinder Trespass but other campaigns that led to the foundation of the National Parks, as well as looking at current environmental issues.

They hope to hold this event at different locations across the Peak District each year gearing up for the next major anniversary in 2022.

So, why not grab your walking boots, put on your fleece and find out more, or even see about making an appearance and joining up, after all without the Kinder Trespass would we have the access to the great outdoors we have today, with National Parks, National Trails, the Countryside and Rights of Way Act which gave walkers more rights to access so we can enjoy the countryside around us. I don’t think so. The UK would be a poorer place without the Trespass.

Or use this as a starting point for making more of the countryside around you, check out the latest offers on the website and get yourself kitted out.
