While packing your bags before heading out for an adventure, you want to pack as many things as you can. You pack kitchenware, bedsheets, blankets, toiletries, etc. The list, in all fairness, is never-ending. You have a lot of things which need to be squeezed into that tiny little bag of yours. It is always a good idea to pack only the things that are required. It goes without saying that if your backpack is lighter, you’d be able to carry it with ease. Feeling exhausted because of carrying an overweight monkey on your back is perhaps the last thing you want.

Here’s a List of Essentials You Need to Pack Right Away

- A map and a compass
- An emergency whistle
- A water bottle along with water purifiers (chlorine tablets)
- Clothes should be packed keeping the weather conditions in mind
- Appropriate footwear
- A portable stove
- Fuel
- Blankets and bed sheets
- Dry food
- A tent
- An emergency light with batteries
- A sunscreen
- A lighter and a matchbox
- A first-aid kit

What is to Be Left Behind?

This is one of the most important things you need to ascertain before you begin packing your bags. The more the number of things you pack, the more would be the weight you’d be carrying along. Carrying less weight would help you walk on uneven terrains with relative ease. It is recommended that you don’t take your laptop and other electronic gadgets along as you won’t have power sockets in the jungle.

Organising the Backpack

It is important to think strategically. Keep the things needed frequently ready for use. Keep the maps, water bottle, and food close at hand. There’s nothing like having a hearty little snack before you hit the trail. Prefer carrying dry food. The maps and the compass also need to be kept ready for use.

Staying Hydrated, Energised, and Prepared

Keep an eye on the obstacles such as precarious weather conditions and keep track of alternate paths to reach your destination. Keep your hat and rain jacket ready for use in case you sense a downpour. In case it gets sunny, you are advised to wear your sunglasses and keep your sunscreen close at hand. Also, keep eating light snacks to keep you up and running. Drink water after regular intervals to keep your body’s water levels intact.

What Goes at the Bottom?

Your sleeping bag can go at the bottom as you won’t be needing it during the day. Larger items would also be placed at the bottom. Press them and place them at the bottom of the backpack using those rippling muscles of yours. Hard things can be surrounded by clothing. If you plan to pack the tent and sleeping bag separately, make sure it is safe from prickly shrubs and bushes.

Keeping Things Dry

Use a big garbage bag to keep your things dry. These are tough, rugged, and can be disposed off after use as well. You can also buy a pack cover if you want.

Now, you’ve packed all the essentials. Remember to pack your binoculars, a multi-tool, a couple of books, and your favourite snack or dessert.
