Running offers you an economical way of staying fit and being proactive. Running can be undertaken by people across all age groups. Apart from its obvious benefits, running also allows you to take out some time and introspect.  Although running isn’t rocket science, but some people still find it hard to get used to it. In all fairness, not everybody happens to be a keen runner, but one can always try and inculcate this habit into his/her daily routine.

Using these three steps, you can create a regular running routine for yourself:

Take out Some Time for Running on a Daily Basis

When you begin, you’d find yourself making several excuses. Habits don’t come easily. You can take out an hour or so in the morning.  If you leave for work a bit early, then you can perhaps take out some time in the evening. You can go for a run anytime.

For those of us who get up early in the morning, taking out an hour or so for running should not be a problem. If your workplace happens to be nearby your house, you can probably go for a walk after you’ve had a cup of tea in the evening.  If you’re feeling a bit lazy, remind yourself about the benefits of running

Go Running with a Friend

You can go running with your friend. Having somebody for company is a good way to keep yourself busy while you run. A little chit-chat with a friend would certainly refresh your mind. Also, it is always good to find like-minded people for company. This would help you keep yourself motivated.

Marathon Runs are a Great Opportunity

If your body allows, you can go and participate in a marathon run. Events such as a 5K run or a 10K run are organised quite regularly. It would not only help you in your bid to remain physically fit and active, but would also allow you to raise money for NGOs, charities, etc.

Rewarding Yourself

Once you have succeeded in completing the run, reward yourself for all the good work. Just make sure that you do not eat junk food in the name of rewarding yourself. You can go and watch a new action film running in theatres. If you are a video gamer looking to get your hands on the latest games, then you can perhaps buy yourself a new video game (Final Fantasy 5 is creating a lot of buzz these days) after you’ve completed your fitness tasks. The rewards you’d be earning would also help you keep yourself motivated.

It goes without saying that keeping yourself motivated to run all the hard yards happens to be a daunting task. Countless reasons would conspire to hold you back, but in order to succeed, your will to succeed has to be stronger than all your insecurities and excuses.
