Solo Hiking: An Adventurous Journey Towards Acceptance
When you start wandering alone, all the chaos tend to make you feel uncomfortable! And this is what happened to me when I first stepped out for a solo adventure trip. There are many adventure sports that you may find interesting liking River Rafting, Bungee Jumping, Sky Diving, etc. but for me, it always has been hiking. The happiness, peace of mind, and harmony I experience while climbing the mountains are unbeatable. I like hiking the most because of the simple and subtle beauty of nature, the sound of silence, and the anticipation of getting a sight of truly magical scenery that I will never forget in my life.
GOING HIKING SINCE I DISCOVERED ADVENTURE
From the past couple of years, I've been spending most of my time on the trails hiking, and expressing the feeling in words is still difficult for me. Whenever you plan an adventure trip solo or with a friend, it doesn't have to be about reaching the top or achieving something to brag about later on. Sometimes, being alone for a while experiencing something as thrilling as hiking is all that you need to get your own little perspective towards life.
ACCEPT YOURSELF THROUGH YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES
Hiking for me is the means of losing myself in the arms of nature. Not only does this experience give me the freedom of being myself without being judged, but it also removes the pressure of meeting anyone else's expectations as well. Hiking is my go-to adventure just because I don’t have to hide my emotions to make someone else comfortable. If I feel happy, I smile, and if I feel like crying, I honour that. Taking an easy control over my emotions is what I get when I go hiking alone, even when the trail gets difficult. I don't care if I make it to the top or not, as long as I am happy, I don't have any hesitation turning back when I get tired or take a pit stop for food or drinks. Hiking is not about some competition, rather it is more about finding yourself, understanding your emotions, and accepting who you are!
AN INTIMATE EXPERIENCE
To me, solace is everything. Imagine being away from the daily chaos and sitting in a peaceful setting where there is nothing but comfort. It is so empowering. Though I accept that travelling solo can be daunting at first but once you realise the joy it brings along, there is no turning back. For me, hiking is not only the way to put myself through exertion for some excitement, but it is like a meditation for me. I was 19 years old when I first went hiking and since then it was difficult for me to stop. It is both satisfying and fulfilling not for my body but my soul. It is difficult to discover such an intimate experience in life, but when you do, make sure you follow till the end!
I understand that travelling alone is not everyone’s cup of tea and on top of that, choosing hiking as an adventure is certainly not. But I feel differently because it makes me feel good and strong. I can’t even express the feeling I experience when hiking, say the joy of camping in the woods, feeling the gushing air through my hair, or just coming back to the tent firing up my stove to cook my own meal.
