"To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven."  Ecclesiastes 3:1

That’s probably the first time we’ve had a quotation from the bible as the heading on one of our blog posts. I couldn’t help feeling that it was appropriate to quote the good book because at long last we seem to be moving into spring.  Ah spring the season of growth and renewal. So what actually is happening? Well scientifically the following:

“In spring in the Northern hemisphere, the axis of the Earth is increasing its tilt toward the Sun and the length of daylight rapidly increases. The hemisphere begins to warm significantly causing new plant growth to "spring forth," giving the season its name.”

So we are leaning towards the sun, the days are getting longer and it’s getting warmer. Hip, hip hooray. At last and about time we say, winter’s icy and claw like hand is slowly loosening its hold on the land.  So in celebration of the arrival of spring it’s time to dust off your walking boots, shake out your walking trousers and put a spring in your step. So what steps should the dedicated walker, or the casual walker for that matter, take to prepare their clothing and equipment for the real beginning of the walking season.

1/ Boots:

Firstly and most importantly how are your boots looking. Are they clean? Are they still fit for purpose? If they are, give them a good clean and your good to go. If not, and as you are on our website, why not have a look at our walking boots.

2/ Waterproofs:

What about your clothing, firstly remember despite the change in the weather this is still early spring in the UK and you still need a waterproof jacket and probably waterproof trousers too. You should already have them and most waterproofs, especially the jackets, should be good for a few seasons use. Once again if you need a new waterproof for spring walking have a look around our website, our jackets are here.

3/ Layers, Layers, layers:

Finally in this brief check list layers. Not only is layering fashionable it’s the perfect way to deal with the potentially changeable and turbulent spring weather.  Ideally you want 3 layers; a base-layer,  a mid-layer and a top-layer. In spring your top layer is normally a waterproof of some description.

So in a nutshell, in preparation for the real beginning of the walking season, check your kit.

Good luck and Good Walking
