Novembers in the UK are gloomy with short days, dark mornings and evenings, and more than often, wet and windy weather. Staying in the UK during this season feels miserable and with the added pandemic and lockdown, it has become worse. Although I don’t mind just snuggling up between the layers of my blanket and keep watching television, but I would want to opt for some outings and physical activities as well.

So in the spirit of being more active in a gloomy November, I have come back with my One Hour Outside in November Challenge. The aim is to encourage me and you to spend some time outside every day, an hour maximum and make the most of this month.

Instilling Some Positivity

Some fresh air and natural light are very beneficial for the mind, soul, and body. Although I am an Ordnance Survey GetOutside Champion, I haven’t spent more than a few minutes outside. And honestly, with this biting cold weather, staying outdoors seems like a difficult task.

One Hour Outside is an idea of mine to get me and anyone who comes across this blog, the motivation to spend time outdoors, for at least an hour, despite how the weather is.

Plan It Out

To not feel overwhelmed, I would suggest you plan how you are going to inculcate this one-hour outdoor challenge in your daily routine. That will help you prepare mentally for the first few days or weeks until it gets comfortable for you.

Spending One Hour outside Every Day in November

I have been doing this challenge for the last six or seven years and from personal experience, I can tell that some days will be tougher than the rest. But to keep you motivated and committed to this challenge, I have made this into a one-month challenge.

Your One-hour outside Challenge

For some people, it is easy to go out on walks because they have a dog to take out on walks, etc. But for some, like me, we have to make a conscious effort to go outside. What you do in that one hour is not the major concern here- you can walk, run, jog, cycle, just stroll around, etc. it’s all up to you. The main focus is on being outdoors.

Develop a Daily Habit

My main aim is to let you guys be truthful to yourself and go out just for an hour every day, diligently. There should not be any piling up of these hours to spend on the weekend. It should not be like you are spending six-seven hours outside on Saturday and staying idle for the next six days.

I would be elated if you can make it a daily habit for the longer term, rather than just keeping it limiting it to the challenge. There are no restrictions on how you go about it- you can do it at your lunchtime, after dinner, in the evenings, or even in the mornings.
