Just because you want to be warm and cosy when you're enjoying the outdoors it doesn't mean you need to shed your sense of style. Gone are the days when you were forced to wear big, baggy fleeces in boring navy blues and greens – instead, today's outdoors clothing stores are stacked high with brightly coloured, made-to-fit and very flattering fleeces.

Why choose a fleece jacket or jumper?

Fleeces are made from a lightweight and insulating synthetic material. They come in a great range of thicknesses and designs but essentially a fleece will do a great job of keeping you warm without any need for weight or bulk. Fleeces are also quick-drying, too so they are great for easy washing.

The wonder of women's fleeces

Today's outdoors clothing designers have realised that women like their fleeces to fit. They want a flattering fit and shape and something that takes into account boobs, waists, hips and slender shoulders.

A new fleece to recommend

One fleece that really stands out from the crowd this season is the Dare 2b ladies Move Close fleece. It comes in a very funky Extreme Pink, or a Bueno shade of delicious deep coffee brown if you prefer.

Here's what our test reviewer thought of the Dare 2b ladies Move Close fleece.

She says: “You can totally see why this fleece is named Move Close, because it's so obviously huggable! The minute I had the fleece over my hea, my daughter and then my partner were demanding cosy hugs. Perhaps you shouldn't wear this fleece in public if you want to avoid being spontaneously hugged! I rather liked the extra cuddle though!

“Being inside the fleece I also felt hugged myself. The fit is really flattering for a fairly chunk fleece, which is surprising. Usually chunkier fleeces make me look a bit rounded! I love the Extreme Pink colour as I think outdoors clothing should be fun and bright, and not dull and navy blue.

“There are several great features of this fleece including kangaroo pocket so stuffing in both hands and a half zip with autolock slider. The cuffs and hems are made of a lovely soft cotton material and really add to the overall feeling of top-notch comfort.

“The fleece is ideal for camping trips (you'll be the warmest on cool evenings around the fire), for general outdoors days with the family and as an extra warm layer under a waterproof jacket for really cold days. In fact, I'm struggling to think of an outdoors winter activity where this fleece wouldn't prove to be a great asset.

“In summary, it's like wearing a nicely fitted and good-looking personal sleeping bag.”

We're selling the Move Close fleece for £26.99 (RRP £40).
