At Outdoor Look we like to have our clothing and gear tested by people who have a real love of the outdoors. Juliette, at FreshAirFix, is one of our trusted outdoors lovers. But she needed a bit of convincing about the merits of walking trousers.

More of a jeans and a pair of trail shoes kind of girl, she had always wondered if walking trousers were absolutely necessary. She questions: “Do you really need those zip off versions that turn into shorts? Why do they always make that swishy noise when you walk?”

So Juliette agreed to give a pair of Craghopper Basecamp Women’s Trousers a try out, just to end her “walking trousers versus jeans debate” once and for all.

Craghopper Basecamp Women’s trousers come with a few technical advantages. They are:
    •    Comfort fit
    •    Lightweight
    •    Have a water repellent and stain resistant finish.
    •    Pockets and belt.

Juliette agreed that the trousers are “incredibly light and comfortable to wear” but she was a little suspicious of the tapered leg, which she thought was “less than flattering and gives a peg-leg effect". But she admitted the trousers are better being "more practical and having excess material flapping around”.

Juliette was also keen to check out the environmental credentials of the Craghopper trousers. According to the blurb: “Craghoppers constantly reviews its carbon footprint and was the first outdoor company to be confirmed as CarbonNeutral®. It is also increasing use of Fairtrade and organic cotton, while packaging is made from recycled products and is biodegradable where possible.”

On reflection, Juliette reckoned the Craghopper trousers are a practical addition to her outdoor wardrobe, especially given the price of £26. She doesn’t promise to wear them for every outdoors outing but because “they roll up conveniently small, so they can easily be stuffed in your rucksack in case the weather changes”, she can see herself popping them in her rucksack in case she needs them.
