The weather is allegedly improving as winter ends and spring begins, but we all know what the weather can do in this little country of ours, so what outdoor gear uk walkers require can make a big hole in your budget, so lets have a little look at what is required to enjoy what the countryside has to offer.

If you have the right clothing and equipment it can make a big difference to both your enjoyment and safety while you are outside, so here is a list of some items that come to mind, but be aware that it is not meant to be anything definitive as items are added or taken out of a list depending on your own personal plans, depending on the climate, length and type of terrain of any planned walk.

Walking Boots: Probably the most important pieces of kit you will buy are a good quality pair of walking boots/shoes. Pick the wrong pair and you could end up with blisters or worse so take your time and think. What you wear on your feet can depend on both the type and length of walks and the time of year so take your time and weigh up the options: boots versus shoes, fabric versus leather, this all needs to be considered.

Make sure that your feet are comfortable when you try a pair of boots; your foot and ankle should be supported and be sliding inside, but you should be able to wiggle your toes. One good tip is to try boots on as near to the end of the day as possible, as your feet are always slightly bigger at this time of day. Another common piece of advice is to make sure you wear your walking socks when trying boots, but remember if you are walking in summer and winter to try the boots with both type of socks.

Base and Mid Layers: Either short or long range synthetic tops are ideal for this purpose and are often lightweight so adding bulk to your overall kit. Cotton shirts and jeans are not recommended for wearing because of the material used in their manufacture. A fleece is ideal as both a mid layer in the colder months and an outer layer in the summer. It dries quickly and is lightweight enough to be packed away when not required.

Waterproofs (Jacket and Over Trousers): As we are all aware 4 seasons and more is possible in one day in the UK at any time of the year, so it is always handy to have at least something waterproof and packable in your rucksack. At colder times of the years then you obviously need something more substantial to wear, so you may want to consider something made of breathable material that is both waterproof and windproof

Hat and Gloves: In the winter these are useful even if you aren’t spending time walking but are great to keep you warm what ever you are doing, but in the summer it is important to remember a sun hat to protect your face as well as your neck

I have concentrated on clothing in this list so think about what else you would need on your prospective trips, making sure your outdoor gear uk or otherwise is exactly what you need to enjoy your walking experience.
