The last thing you want when you take out your snowboard gear in winter season is to find out it is all damaged, but as it turns out, that might be what you get. Even a rusty snowboard wrapped in a sheet of dirt can be a total turn off. Not to mention, it would not just mean delay in snowboarding but also expenditure.
Improper storage of snowboard gear can lead to lasting damage. It is important to store the gear properly during the summer. Here are some tips that will help you with it and ensure your snowboard and its gear do not suffer over the off-season.
Remove Snowboard Bindings
Taking the bindings off will make it easy to clean and wax the board. You can easily take these bindings off using a screwdriver. Remember their positioning so you can easily bind them back. Keep all the screws carefully in a Ziploc bag and tape the bag to the snowboard for safety storage.
Clean it Up
When you have already used the board an entire season, it deserves a little cleaning. Ensure that the board is stored in optimal condition. Check for the damages, scratches, or dents if any. You will also want to sharpen the edges and clean the board off the rust so that its surface is smooth.
Wax the Board
Once sanded, cleaned, and sharpened, it is time to wax the board. The wax will protect the board throughout the summer months. It will prevent the board from drying out so that you can start skiing on the onset of the season itself.
Put the Bindings On
Once you have cleaned and waxed the board, it’s time you put the bindings back on.
Get it Wrapped
Wrapping the snowboard will protect it from rust and dust build-up. Wrap it completely to keep the humidity out and board, dry. You can use a plastic wrap and then put the board in the bag it came in for double security.
Storing the Gear (Boots)
The rest of your gear needs as much attention as the board itself. The gear essentially means your winter ski boots. You don’t want to find your boots sloppy or full of odour when you unpack them after the summer. The best practice is to dry them completely and then clean the dust off them before storing. Ignoring the moisture will lead to the development of mould. Clean them with a damp cloth and good care, especially the lining and insole. Hand wash them if required.
Caution
Make sure you buckle the boots and rest of your gear to help them retain their shape.
Storing the Gear (Clothing)
While the temptation of washing your gear might be high, it is best advised not to do so. Washing the gear too often or repeatedly can cause them to lose their waterproofing. Their durability will also be affected. If too dirty, wash them in low-temperature with a little detergent. Rinse the gear twice and avoid stain removers, bleach, and fabric softeners. Iron the gear using low-heat, through a towel, and without steam.
Ideal Storage Location
Store the snowboard and boots in a cool and dry location. Let the board be stored standing upright instead of laying it flat on the surface to preserve its shape. Keep it on a carpeted surface or on an old towel.
Follow the steps and tips mentioned in this article to save yourself time and money. These tips will extend the life of your snowboard and gear by preserving their shape and quality.
