Easter is long gone and the beginning of June is almost upon us, so it’s that time of year to pick out a new piece of hiking equipment for the British Summer, namely a waterproof jacket. Well we all know what the weather can do when out walking, especially at this time of year. Let’s face it, with our climate, at any time of the year.

However, which line do I take; do I think positive and go for something that is lightweight, packable maybe? Or is discretion the batter part of valour and go for something a bit more substantial? Let’s see what is available.

The Regatta Trentham Jacket is both lightweight and waterproof. It features a part mesh polyester taffeta lining, and uses the waterproof and breathable Isotex peached polyester fabric in its construction. Another plus point is that it will fold up to fit in the rucksack, so I wouldn’t have to wear it all day. Alternatively, the Trekmates Pak Poncho is large enough to cover me and my backpack, but will pack away when not in use.

The option of an outdoor jacket that is a bit more robust then I could opt for the Regatta Defender 3 in 1 Jacket. It has a PVC coated polyester fabric which is fully waterproof, taped seams and is polyamide lined. Included is a 250 series super fleece. Then again, the Trespass Toliman Shell Jacket is mesh lined and is both breathable and waterproof. But maybe more suitable for the winter, but with our British weather it would be worth considering.

Well after due consideration, I’m off to buy the Trentham Jacket as it fits more in to the walking I will do doing, and will be useful as an additional jacket to take out in the evenings as well. Well that’s another piece of hiking equipment added to my outdoor wardrobe, and another piece of my wage handed back to Outdoor Look.
