You still have time to enter this year’s UK National Parks photo competition. This year’s theme is “Britain’s Breathing Spaces: Space to Grow” and is aimed at photographers of all abilities and the closing date for entries is the 28th May, so grab your camera and your waterproof and get outside over the Bank Holiday..

The theme of this year’s competition is concentrating on youth and the young at heart, discovering something new, so whether it’s taking part in a Duke of Edinburgh scheme on Exmoor, creating a work of art sat on the South Downs, or getting to the top of Snowdon for the first time, it’s all about showing people discovering what the National Parks can offer and learning something new. You can even enter any photo in your collection, black and white or colour, taken last week or last decade as long as it fits the remit.

Jim Dixon, chief executive of the Peak District National Park Authority, said: 'When we think of the future and who will look after our National Park family in the decades and centuries ahead, we think of young people.

'We might think of the child catching his or her first fish, but there is, too, the grandparent who is teaching that child to fish and instilling a respect and love of our naturally beautiful landscapes.

So, let’s all get involved, and get the kids outside and being active, which is always a good thing and with the advent of modern technology they can be taking the pictures as well. All entries have to have been taken within the borders of one of the fifteen National Parks, showing people being inspired or enjoying what the Parks offer and there are prizes for the national winners. So wherever you are in the country there is a National Park not too far away and the broad scope of this year’s competition gives everyone a chance of taking part and maybe even winning, now where did I put my camera?
