Yes, the weatherman says that the sun will have his hat on for the majority of the country this weekend, so get your walking clothing on and get outside, but don’t forget that the clocks go forward on Sunday. That means an early start in lighter conditions, as long as you forgo that last pint on Saturday night, but where to go and will the fact that’s it’s Mothers Day get in the way?

I for one will be trying to get an early walk in but will be taking my mum out for lunch, dutiful son that I am, wonder if I get away with turning up in my walking gear, mmmm perhaps not, will have to factor extra time in to get changed. That means a slightly shorter walk, so it looks like one of my favorite walks could be the best option, a short stride across the Bollin and onto the Middlewood Way, or perhaps a brisk walk to Prestbury and back. Let’s see what the weekend brings. At least it means I can travel light, but even with the weather forecast being set for fair, a waterproof will still be in the rucksack.

The walk to Prestbury and back has certainly changed over the years, now it is a proper countryside park with paths and bridges over the river. When I was a lot younger than I am now, the same route meant wading through the river and sneaking across a couple of fields (whoops). Then the walk back along the road back into town, which is always time well spent, not too exhausting but a chance to wear in shoes and test out that new rucksack.

So a good brisk walk and still time to score brownie points by taking mum out for lunch and maybe a couple of sneaky pints along the way (hic). So just a chance to get the walking clothing on before summer arrives and the big walks. Will have to check the website for more bargains.
