A normal two-day weekend but there are still lots of things to do and see to enjoy the best outdoor pursuits. Here are a few I have found scattered across the country. If you have an event that you think deserves a mention let me know and I will get you into the blog. And if you attend any of the events, let us know how the day went, embarrassing pictures and stories are always welcome.

If you are north of the border this weekend in the vicinity of Falkirk, why not try out a one day course for beginners who want to experience rock climbing. It will take place on one of the local crags and cover all the basics such as tying in, belaying and movement on the rock itself. And if you don’t want to climb the are offers some lovely trails to follow to experience the great views.

For those of you who fancy a little run on Saturday, the Staveley Lakeland Trails event is taking place. Three events of 10km and 17km will follow courses along marshaled footpaths and bridleways , which will take in panoramic views of this southern Lakeland area, if you have time to stop that is! Underfoot conditions are quite variable and invole a bit of everything, from tarmac to grassy footpaths to stony bridleways and even a couple of stiles making it a bit of a unique race.

For the less physical amongst you, why not pop down to Swindon in Wilshire and learn about what it is like to be a Ranger for the day. An event aimed at 10-16 year olds, this is a chance to see what happens in the parks and what creatures can be seen on a day to day basis while working at Coate Water.

As the weather gets warmer, hopefully, here’s an event with a difference Gloucester Ski Centre are holding a series of races this weekend so a chance to get your skis out, and here’s hoping that is the last time I say that until a lot later in the year!

Over in Wales, at the Blaenavon World Heritage Site there is the opportunity to go on an escorted walk to journey back through time in search for fossils that are scattered throughout the landscape. A moderate walk of about three miles, but isn’t considered suitable for young children.

For those stuck in the alledged urban sprawl of London, check out the Ibex Mountain and Hill Wlaking Club who organize a series of walks and weekend getaways. This weekend they have a walk from Hitchin to Knebworth, taking in part of the Hertfordshire Way, and it would appear there is at least two pub stops planned.

So there you go, grab your outdoor gear, boots and fleeces and see what you can experience this weekend, wherever you are in the UK.
