Losing weight sounds simple, but comes with many challenges. In the quest to fit into the pants of yore, people try to follow fad diets, start exercising, and even take up expensive gym memberships. When the passion wears off and the bank account runs dry, they get back to their old habits and quickly forget about their hastily devised regimen.

After years of struggling with my gargantuan weight, I believe I have finally found the solution to this age-old problem. The resolution to the weight problem lies in the approach a person takes. If you are planning to lose weight quickly without a change of lifestyle, you will never be successful. Aping the strategy of someone else who has successfully lost weight is also not the way to go about it. A person has to understand their body type and create a diet chart accordingly. Exercises should also be selected depending on your capability. Performing exercises that are too hard to master may result in injuries, which may set you back in your quest for weight loss. Below are a few tips that I believe will help you lose weight fast with sustained results:

1. Eat Unprocessed Whole Food Items

"Whole foods" is a fancy term which simply means unprocessed food items. Simply prepared vegetables, pulses, and whole grains not only provide ample nutrition, but they also keep you fit and healthy. Simple preparations of food items can help in keeping the nutritional benefits of the food intact and allow you to reap maximum benefits out of your meals. On the other hand, elaborate preparations that include heavy frying can destroy most of the nutritive elements. Eating processed food certainly satiates hunger, but does not always provide all the nutrients essential for healthy body development. This makes you feel desperately lethargic, and slows down your metabolism which leads to weight gain. Stick to whole foods to avoid this whole mess.

2. Cut Down on Sugar and Starch

Simple carbs are essential for providing you with energy. However, when you are trying to lose weight, you should cut down on your daily intake of carbs and replace it with protein. If you find it difficult to differentiate between carbs and other food items, simply cut down on white food (except for cauliflower and white beans). Avoid eating carbs like white bread, pasta, and beverages with high sugar content, and see your weight go down in a jiffy.

3. Add Healthy Fats and Proteins to Your Diet

Proteins and healthy fats fill you up faster and help you avoid eating calorie-rich food items. Besides filling you up faster, these food items boost your metabolism and let you stay energetic throughout the day. An energetic body allows you to exercise for long without getting tired which further reduces your body weight. Add olive oil, coconut oil, avocado, nuts, and full-fat dairy items in your meals to make sure that your body gets a lot of healthy fat. Meat, seafood, eggs, beans, and lentils are excellent protein sources and should definitely be added to your diet chart.

4. Exercise As Much As You Can

Last but definitely not the least; exercising every day is a great way to make sure that you lose calories daily. For a person with average build, it is observed that losing 3500 calories results in a weight loss of 1 pound. Stick to high-metabolic activities like running and jogging for losing calories quickly. In case you are unable to exercise every single day, you should work out at least thrice a week to maintain a high metabolism.

5. Sleep Well

A sound sleep is essential for physical and mental well-being. If you are trying to lose weight, you need to make sure that you sleep well every night. It is found that if two persons are working out the same way and are on the same diet plan, the one who gets a better sleep is likely to lose more weight. Sound Sleep alone will not let you lose weight, but when it is complemented with a rigorous workout and a healthy diet, it will do wonders to your health.
