First it was his elder brother Sail Chapman who aged just five became the youngest person to complete all 214 Wainwright walks. Not to be outdone – and no doubt due to a little sibling rivalry – his younger brother Coel has now achieved the same record but at the younger age of four years and 10 months. Two older brothers Eire and Evan have also walked all of the hills located in the Lake District.

Did you know?: The Wainwrights are the 214 fells (hills and mountains) described in A. Wainwright's seven-volume Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells (1955–1966). To find out more about the Wainwrights see Wainwright Society

Coel climbed his first Wainwright in October 2009 on Sale Fell, near Cockermouth, and completed his Wainwrights challenge on August 13. He has made walking history even before he starts school!

It seems the Wainwrights are something of a family obsession! Parents, Dr David Chapman and Dr Clare Lavery, from Beverley, East Yorkshire, have been walking with their children for many years and had no idea that there was a record to be broken.

It was only when they were reading an article in a national newspaper that they realised that Robin Regan, from Cumbria, had walked all the Wainwrights by the time her was five years 11 months old.

Dr Lavery is reported as saying: "Walking has always been something we've enjoyed. Each of the older boys' enthusiasm has rubbed off on Sail – and now Coel – and they love to keep up with their big brothers."

Dr Chapman said Eire and Evan could have gained the record themselves, but climbed many of the Fells time and again with Sail and their sister Danu.

Alfred Wainwright died in 1991 aged 84 having climbed the 214 Lake District numeorus times over.
