For all those who like simply to grab your walking boots and head out to enjoy the great outdoors, your own locality is often ignored so why not enjoy what is on your own doorstep.

Here in Macclesfield we are lucky to have stunning scenery, as we have the Cheshire Plain on one side of town and the beginning of The Peak District on the other. There are literally hundreds of footpaths which will take you along riverbanks, over hills, through the forest, along canal towpaths and across wild moorlands. Hike up to White Nancy, an iconic Grade II listed folly that overlooks Bollington, and gives amazing views of the surrounding countryside and the Cheshire Plain. Get out and about to Tegg’s Nose Country Park and on a clear day enjoy the views of the hills at Helsvy and sometimes beyond. Take in Alderley Edge and follow the steps of the wizard through the legend filled woods.

You can take a stroll along the Macclesfield Canal towpath, and stop off at one of the several excellent pubs on the way. You could even pay us a visit at our Macclesfield outlet and we can show you our latest arrivals. If you feeling really energetic you get take on the Gritstone Trail, a 35 mile route that stretches from Disley in the north through to Kidsgrove in the south, taking in some of the best views and ridge walking in the whole of Cheshire.

Guided walks and outdoor events for the whole family are organised by the local Ranger Service at the various county parks and nature reserves in the county. In August for example there have events including a Nordic Walking Taster Session at Tegg’s Nose, a session of Moth Madness at Newgate Nature Reserve and a chance to use your map skills to explore Brereton Heath Nature Reserve.

Remember to make sure you are dressed with the appropriate footwear, such as the latest Karrimor Bodmin Boot, which is ideal for both short local walks and for those longer hikes, and clothes, but make sure you get out to enjoy what is on your own doorstep. Why not let us know what is available on your doorstep.
