When it comes to skiing, it becomes mandatory to keep your children safe from the cold weather outside. It is very important to wear warm and comfortable clothes during skiing to ensure that your children enjoy their holidays to the fullest.

If your children don’t have any skiing experience, make them watch YouTube videos about ski sports or play games related to skiing with them and let them discover how interesting skiing can be.

During traveling, make sure your children are comfortable in their clothes. It is ideal to dress them up in T-shirt and bottoms and a hoodie. What I do is keep a jacket in my hand as it can be folded and used as a pillow while traveling. If you have younger kids, it is better to keep an extra set of clothes.

Purchase or Rent?

I advise you to always rent skis, helmet and boots from a rental service or borrow from one of your friends instead of buying them. Borrowing from friends can save your money but sometimes borrowing is not possible. In that case you can hire from a clothing rental service that offers good- quality ski-essentials at affordable rates. If you hire a ski jacket for a week, it will still cost way less than a new jacket.

All-in-One Snowsuit or Separate Jacket & Trousers

A jacket and trousers or even salopettes can be utilised while tobogganing and other snow activities. You can also wear it for winter walks. It will be great if you buy the clothes with bright colours as it makes easy to find your children during skiing and ski-school.

If you have young children, a one-piece snowsuit ensures perfect fit and allows your children to enjoy fully while making them comfortable. If your children are above 5 years of age, then you can choose separate jacket and trousers as it provides flexibility while going to bathroom. You can create our own unique look by matching colours of our jacket and trousers or purchasing them in contrast colours, as I do.

What to Choose from Sunglasses and Goggles?

When it’s windy or snow is falling, sunglasses won’t provide enough protection to your eyes as compared to goggles. It is advisable to purchase affordable goggles that fit over your helmet perfectly.

Helmets

Wearing helmets during skiing is extremely important to ensure safety. Regardless of age, or whether you are a beginner or an expert, wearing helmet is a must. Sometimes, a nursery slope can be hard like a rock which can can seriously harm you if you fall on your head so never give children a woollen hat to keep them warm. Instead choose helmets with thin helmet liners that provide both warmth and protection.

What to Choose from Gloves and Mittens?

Between mittens and gloves, mittens are warmer. So, buy a pair of mittens. If your kids go to the nursery or ski-school, try to attach their mittens with some chord or sling into the sleeves of their jacket as it helps kids to wear them comfortably and enjoy skiing.

What to Choose as a Base Layer?

Having a top and bottom thermal base layer when you go skiing is mandatory. You must carry a few sets of base layer, so you can change them in the mid-week. These are extremely light and dry quickly which allows you to wash them during holidays. These are usable at home also as your children can wear them while playing football or hockey in mild winters or can be used during walks in the rain.

What to Pick Up from Scarf and Neck Warmer?

A neck warmer seems to be more useful and protective than a scarf. A neck warmer is made from breathable fabric, soft fleece or Merino wool which will protect your children from cold winds.

Ski Socks, Boots, Skis and Poles

Ski boots, these days, are insulated very well and keep you warm even if you wear thinner socks. So, it is great to wear thin socks as it forms a cushion between your foot and ski boots. Thin socks allow your children to easily move their toes.

There is no need to buy boots, skis and poles for children until they have achieved stable foot size. The ski instructor knows well when to change the skis and boots.

Be Protective from Sun

Skiing under the sun can be harmful for your children, so always keep them protected from UV rays by applying SPF30 to SPF50 cream on the exposed body parts.

Ski Holiday with Your Baby

If you are on a ski holiday with your little baby be prepared with all the essentials such as warm clothes, goggles specially designed for babies, sunscreen, Calpol and many others.
