Autumn can be a bit confusing when it comes to clothing yourself appropriately for a run. While the temperature between late spring and early autumn might hover around a chilly 0 and 15 degree Celsius, your body will react differently to these temperatures. It might perspire due to heat caused by running or can cause headaches if you underestimate the weather. In such situations, you might have to be more careful about getting layered before stepping outside.

Begin with the Basics

Start with choosing the right fabric that will ensure comfort. Pick on a T-shirt and leggings with quick-drying and fast moisture-wicking action. Make sure what you wear is breathable so that it lets out the sweat. This will eradicate the chances of you catching a cold when you stop by for a water-break or simply to appreciate the view.

Prevent Overheating Your Body

If you tend to be the person who often and easily feels cold, you are recommended to wear long or full sleeves. While there is no need of putting on layers after layers of clothing, one or two additional layers should be able to save you from a dripping nose and scratchy throat. In spring, shorts and tank tops can still be working well in your favour.

When Mid-Autumn Kicks In

Mid-Autumn temperature usually ranges from 5 degrees to 10 degree Celsius. The nights are chilly and the air is fresh but quite breezy. It’s time to retire your shorts, fold your tank tops and store them back in the trunk. Leggings, jogger pants, and running tights are the best picks for this time of year. A shorts-person can still choose to wear his/her favourite shorts and stay comfortable. But for someone who is easily cold, it is recommended that he/she go on a run fully clothed.

Carry a Hoodie

Once you are clothed in moisture-wicking, quick-drying outfit, cover yourself in a breathable jacket or a comfortable hoodie. It will keep your core warm and insulated. As the temperature drops, you can add layers of a pair of gloves, socks, neck warmer, or cap for extra warmth. Choose a pair of gloves that do not end up with your hands wet and sweaty.

Take Good Care of Your Feet

Soft, lined shoes are your best friends when it comes to a good, comfortable run. Avoid shoes with mesh to keep heat retained inside. Wear socks made of wool blend and those which wick away sweat and moisture while keeping your feet warm. Pick on shoes that feature waterproof Gore-Tex uppers.

Be Armed Against the Wind

Keep a check on the weather because a breezy or windy day calls in for a wind-resistant jacket.

Running is a healthy activity and requires a good warm-up for better health results. Wearing inadequate clothing or putting on an outfit that does not keep you protected against the changing and cold weather can cause you to fall ill. Ensuring comfortable gear and layering will not only feel comfortable and keep you healthy, but will also keep up your motivation.
