A town in Surrey, South East England; Guildford is adjacent to the Surrey Hills and is a great base for walking. Whether you are looking for a light and breezy walk or going in your full hiking form, you can do anything here. The town takes you to many places, from River Wey strolls to difficult hills. You can always decide the destination with walking partners.

Let’s talk about a few routes to help you decide –

  1. Martha’s Hill and Newlands Corner

Known for the best views, this 17.7 km long trail is a mix of everything. To be honest, this is one of my favourite walks. You’ll be able to see a beautiful view, woodland, river, and war history during this walk. It begins along the River Wey and heads up to the Chantry Wood. You’ll reach the Newlands Corner, a spot famous for star gazing. But this night isn’t usually done at night. It takes approximately 4 hours to complete this walk and has a medium-level difficulty.

  1. Godalming

Begin this walk from Guildford and end it at Godalming. A 9 km walk to cover in approximately 2 hours, this easy walking route will take you from one town to another. It will take you through several locks and barges. There are some impressive bridges, a stretch of river, trees, and wildlife. The only drawback of this trail is that you might not get away from the train and road noises.

  1. Farnham

One of the longest walks, this Guildford to Farnham covers a distance of 18 km and takes approximately 4.5 hours. This walk is the 1st stage of the North Downs Way route. Although you’ll always hear road noises during this walk it will give you a view of open fields, woodland, and golf courses.

  1. Westhumble

This is another long trail with a 23.5 km distance. Its level of difficulty ranges from medium to challenging, majorly because of the distance. The trail usually ends in around 5 hours and follows Stage 2 of North Downs Way. It starts from River Wey and heads to St. Martha, Chantry Wood, and Newlands Corner. If you are someone who enjoys woodland, this walk might be for you.

  1. Other Guildford Walks

There are some other walks that you can try –

  1. Weybridge: This is a long walk that follows through the River Wey.
  2. Gomshall: This walk through the silent pool seems interesting.
  3. Chilworth Gunpowder Mills: This walk takes you to the Newlands Corner Walk and St. Martha’s Hill. It is a hilly route and is a nice choice for those who like travelling to hills.
