If you have been canoeing before, you must know how important it is to wear the right clothes to be able to enjoy it to the fullest. So, for the people who have never experienced canoeing, here are some clothing essentials that you should consider.

  1. Portaging Shoes

Different footwear is designed for different activities. While camping, hiking, canoeing, or hiking, it is advisable to wear footwear which fits you properly, makes you feel comfortable, dries quickly, and can withstand decent traction.

Your feet will get wet when getting on and off portages, it is good for you to wear shoes which can get wet and wick moisture quickly. Due to this reason, I personally prefer to put on crocs as they dry quickly.

I own a pair and these portaging shoes are practical and versatile. They are lightweight and keep me comfortable throughout the canoe trip. They do not retain water and dry quickly. One thing that I love the most about them is that I can wear them on varied terrains while hiking or camping.

Make sure you choose a pair of shoes which are comfortable otherwise you might get blisters.

  1. Hiking Pants

A pair of quick-drying and lightweight hiking pants are a must during a canoeing trip. You can choose the pants according to the temperature and your comfort. I prefer full-length pants as they are more practical.

I have a pair of roll up pants. I love these pants as they can be rolled up while getting on and off canoe which ensures dryness.

  1. Rain Jacket

You never know when it will rain, so it is always better to be prepared in advance. I always take a rain jacket on my canoe, hiking, or camping trip and will suggest you the same.

  1. Warm Base layer

It is always a great idea to carry a warm base layer on your canoeing trip. The weather can take a turn anytime, therefore you should make arrangements in advance to stay protected. A merino base layer is a perfect option as it is moisture-wicking, breathable, and comfortable to wear.

These are my 4 clothing favourites for a canoe trip. They are super practical, and you’ll feel comfortable in all of them. Make sure you pack these essentials for your next canoe trip.
