As the west side of the country recovers this morning the east side faces the biggest storm the uk has faced in recent times, so uk outdoor gear is crucial is staying safe from whatever the elements throw at us. Although the best approach is to batten down the hatches sometimes it is unavoidable to go out sides and in these instances we have to be wearing the appropriate clothing.

All over the southern half of England and Wales people are facing travel chaos and over 200.000 homes are now without power. Network Rail has reported that the damage was worse than they had expected with trees blocking lines, and two landslips. Heathrow Airport has seen over 130 flights cancelled and the port of Dover was closed as winds stayed at a constant 60 miles per hour.

More than 100 trees have been felled during the night blocking rail lines and hundreds of members of staff have been working to monitor the changing situation and react to damage as quickly and efficiently as possible. The widespread damage has meant vastly reduced services this morning with blockages on the West Coast, East Coast and Midland main lines, with power lines being brought down.

People are being advised to stay away from the sea, and while commuters into London face widespread disruption to services the storm is edging its way into East Anglia where further disruption is expected during the morning.

So if you do have to venture out please make sure the journey is necessary and wrap up warm in whatever uk outdoor gear you have, whether it is fleece plus a waterproof or a 3-in-1 jacket, and a good pair of walking boots will be the absolute minimum.
