"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" is a philosophical question that opens up a debate on both the fallibility of observation and ultimately the nature of reality. The question essentially asks does sound exist, indeed can sound exist, without the presence of a sentient observer. Now personally I tend to believe that the whilst the concept of sound is largely a creation of an individual observer sound in and of itself does have a separate non-subjective existence, but it was whilst considering this classic dilemma that I began to wonder.

Does a mirror ever give you an accurate reflection of the clothes that you are wearing?

Well the obvious answer is no it doesn’t, it’s a reflection - duh. Trite I admit but maybe it does mean that we can never get a truly accurate perception of ourselves. Instead it’s generally accepted by scientists that psychologically whilst we acknowledge the image in the mirror we actually create our own self-image which whilst bearing some relationship to reality is not always entirely accurate. So where does this leave us when selecting clothes. Well as a retailer of stylish and economic garments (only a minor plug!) here at Outdoor Look we like to think that we can help. For instance  take a look at our  Helly Hansen Jeans. They look good in the pictures on our site and undoubtedly they look good in the mirror when you are wearing them, but do they really look good?

Absolutely!  That’s why they are one of our best sellers. If you can’t rely on your perception you’ve got to rely on the wisdom of crowds. The crowd says they look good and that’s why they are a best seller. Give them a try let’s see if perception is reality.
