Central Helicopters

The Peak District offers some stunning views, but have you experienced them from above? Central Helicopters provide people with the chance to enjoy a helicopter ride, which will definitely help to make your day that little bit more special. With a variety of different packages at different prices – there will hopefully be something for everyone. There are currently four different packages, with the first two being six and fifteen mile air experiences, with the latter two being a 15 minute tour of the Peak District and Chatsworth, as well as a 30 minute tour of Dambuster and Chatsworth – which includes a free lunch!

Wickers World Balloon Flights

Another way for you to experience the beauty of the Peak District from above is by hot air balloon! Located in Derbyshire, the rides are available from three locations:

  • Rowsley
    • The first location is in Rowsley, which is located between Bakewell and Matlock as well as close to Chatsworth House!
  • Tissington Hall.
    • Located just north of Ashbourne in the village of Tissington, is the second location. Nearby there is a walk and cycle path which link Buxton with Ashbourne, so if you’re looking to stretch your legs before or after your ride, there is somewhere to go!
  • Glutton Bridge.
    • The final location is located south of Buxton, a place which offers some stunning views and scenery.

There may only be three main locations to begin from, but if you’re in a group of eight or more arrangements can be made for them to come to you – within a reasonable distance, of course.

Five Wells Chambered Tomb

For those with an interest in history, Five Wells Chambered Tomb may well be of interest. Located in Derbyshire, this tomb is often labelled as the highest megalithic tomb in Britain.

There have been four partial excavations of the two chambers in the last one hundred and seventy years. The first was Bateman in 1846 who found the remains of twelve individuals as well as burnt bones and flint. Jewitt found pottery and flint in 1862, Lukis found the remains of a further three people in 1865 with Salt finding even more between 1899 and 1901. Salt also discovered arrowheads, a knife and pottery – some of which included features that indicate they were in use at some time around the Bronze Age.
