Animal clothing started out in a bedroom. They made small quantities and sold them to their surfing friends. The money they raised paid for trips to Oz and Hawaii where they sold more straps.

The simplicity and rugged nature of the strap made it suitable for crossing over into other sports like windsurfing, snowboarding, skateboarding, and many others. Before to long the strap became a success and the Animal clothing brand was born.

Animal clothing is now an international brand manufacturing surfing, snowboarding, windsurfing and mountain biking apparel and accessories. The company has 50 stores in the UK and a further 10 internationally. Animal is the sponsor of the Animal Windfest, an annual three day long festival of water-sports held in September at Sandbanks, Poole.
